23 Vases for the historical balustrade of the Körnerpark in Berlin, 2020
The Neo-Baroque style of Körnerpark in Berlin with its opulent architectural elements and plants inspired this project. The front balustrade of the upper garden is decorated with tropical plants during the summer. In winter the plants are put away. We decided to place our decoratively painted vases in place of the real ones. The flat objects laser-cut from plywood are deformed as if they were moving or in conversation with each other. The whimsical vessels are painted in a variety of inventive historical motifs inspired by designs of the Royal Porcelain Collections of Berlin and Dresden. The pseudo-volume and porcelain-like appearance of the objects has created an illusionistic play with the park, turning it into a two-dimensional space and inviting the public to become part of the painting.
